Considering this, we’ve designed a free McAfee antivirus support guide that can allow you to run a virus scan correctly and program an auto-scan also. Before we start, we assume that you have the McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2012 installed on your computer.

If you do not have, start looking for the McAfee installation kit. It will have a McAfee installation disc, McAfee installation support manual. If the program came preinstalled with your computer, there’s absolutely not any need to re-install it. If you do not have the McAfee disk and the program is also not installed on your computer, open your browser and see the McAfee site.

Download McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2012 and install it on your PC. When completed, you will notice a McAfee shortcut icon on your desktop and/or from the system tray. To get a pre-installed McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2012, if this is the first time you’re running it, you may be prompted to register with McAfee.

Thus, enter your initials and the last name, and a valid email address. When done, the application will check for the latest updates and install them. You may push the updates back in the event that you would like to run them later on.

Start looking for the M icon and double-click to start it. As stated previously, you will find it either on the desktop, the system tray or taskbar. When from the McAfee AntiVirus Plus console, you will find a summary of the security status of your computer, update status, subscription, tools, and features, etc.. Under Features, you may see Virus and Spyware Protection, Email and Web Security, Data Protection, and PC and Home Network Tools.

Click on the drop-down arrow on the Virus and Spyware Protection strip. You will find a list of attributes viz. You will now see the scanning options viz. Run a fast scan, Run a complete scan, and Run a custom scan. Pick an option, click on it, then click on the Start button to start scanning your PC.

If you suspect a malicious action on your PC, then choose to conduct a complete virus scan. If you would like to keep on working on your prior tasks, click on the Run in the background option before clicking on the Start button. This way the virus scan will run in the background and will appear only when it finishes.

If you wish to see the scanning progress, click the M icon and the console will open up. If the program detects a Trojan virus or potentially unwanted program, it will either automatically eliminate it or prompt you to take an action. Choose what’s shown on the console display.

If you wish to program auto-scans to avoid facing the hassles of manual scans, return to the Virus and Spyware Protection strip onto the console. You will observe that the Scheduled Scans attribute is enabled. Under Schedule, Your Scans, click on the radio button beside Establish my own scan program. Click on the drop-down arrow and choose a time period. Also, pick the specific day to automatically run the scan on. For optimum performance of your computer, click on the box beside Scan using minimum tools.
